DTFWin boosts the capabilities of Q&A Windows with macros and more. It
totally transforms Q&A for Windows, giving it more power than
Q&A 5 for DOS |
Key Benefits
-
DTFWin provides a script language that takes the place of the very
popular macros used with the DOS versions of Q&A.
- It supports multiple databases on the screen at once.
- It supports windows list boxes so you can double click to get data from
another database or text file.
-
DTFWin is in use at many locations.
- It is well tested, very powerful, stable, and safe to use.
|
| The
OVERVIEW.TXT file
gives a more detailed account of what it can do ( the
DTFWIN.NEW file has a
history of the features that have been incorporated into
DTFWin). The
Developer's Guide (DEVGUIDE.TXT)
describes in detail how to use all of the capabilities of
DTFWin. There is a free demo for
DTFWin. You can see
images of the demo
program or you can
download
and run the demo.
The windows version of Q&A has the ability to present multiple forms for your
existing DOS databases. These forms can easily be made to be much more
presentable than is possible with DOS databases.
However, Q&A Windows has some deficiencies that have limited its usefulness
by serious developers of Q&A applications.
DTFWin is a Windows program that
works with Q&A Windows to overcome those deficiencies.
Actually,
DTFWin is a generic program that is customized to create your own
specific application. Your own windows program would have its own icon, its own
menu structure, and it would know about your Q&A Windows databases and how to
manipulate them as part of your application.
Rather than try to explain exactly what this means, take a look at the
WINDEMO program. This is a customized Windows program created just to be a demo.
It illustrates the types of features that can be easily built into your own,
customized Windows program.

DTFWin capabilities
- The application's main menu is DTFWin, not
QAWin.
DTFWin runs QAWin as
needed. Upon startup, no Q&A banner is displayed.
-
DTFWinchanges its size and QAWin's size and then positions them
together. Thus, QAWin looks very much like a window that belongs to
DTFWin.
- If the user presses a key, such as F12, while on a field,
DTFWin can
intercept the keystroke and perform special actions, based on the current
form and field and the key that was pressed. (Examples: context sensitive
help, popping up a multicolumn listbox filled with data taken from a Q&A
database.)
- If a particular value appears in a field and the cursor is in that
field,
DTFWin can observe the value and perform special actions based on the
current form and field and the value in the field. (Example: automatically
changing to a different form that displays a different set of fields.)
|
| Special actions that can take place
based on a key press, a field value, or a menu choice include:
|
| |
running a macro, |
| |
switching to another form,
|
| |
displaying help (using Windows help or a HTML browser),
|
| |
doing a multicolumn popup from the same or another Q&A database (DTFDATA is built in to
DTFWin),
|
| |
doing a popup from a text file,
|
| |
running another Windows or DOS program (DOS sessions are automatically
created for DOS programs) |

your databases.
